King Farm 2021 Annual Meeting & Election

The King Farm Citizens Assembly will host its Annual Meeting of the Membership and Election virtually on Wednesday, April 28th at 7:00 PM via Zoom Meeting. The primary purpose of the meeting is for presentation of the State of the Community report by the KFCA President and the election of three (3) Board of Trustees seats. The Treasurer will also provide a brief presentation on the current annual budget. Election results will be announced, and the newly elected members will be installed at the meeting.

Three candidates, Sue Beckerman, Ric Ricciardi, and Matthew Roh are running for the three (3) seats on the Board of Trustees. Since the seats are not contested, a Candidate Forum will not be held. The Trustee positions are two-year terms. Candidate statements can be viewed on the King Farm website (https://kingfarm.org/2021-annual-election/), in the March edition of the King Farm Chronicle, or by requesting a hard copy from the Management Office.

How to Attend the Meeting:

How to Vote in the KFCA Election:

ONLINE VOTING is available for the 2021 Annual Meeting and Election and is the preferred method of voting. If you vote online, you do not need to vote by any other method. Your vote will only be counted once.

Registered voters will receive a postcard with your name, registration code, and the designated web address to register and cast your vote. Please add votehoanow.com as an approved domain name. If you have your registration code, visit https://kingfarm.ivotehoa.com/accountSignup.php to register. As part of the registration, registrants will be asked to provide the most up to date email address and phone number. Please complete this information as it will be used for future elections. Food Truck Friday Night

It’s Food Truck Friday! The Corned Beef King truck returns to King Farm tonight, parked outside the Saddle Ridge Community Center (300 Saddle Ridge Circle) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. As always, be sure to wear your mask and socially distance while waiting for your orders.

King Farm Virtual Town Hall Meeting

There will be a virtual Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, March 31st from 7:30 – 9:00 pm via Zoom Meeting. The Town Hall is an opportunity for King Farm community members to ask questions and provide feedback or opinions in an informal setting. This is not a Board of Trustees meeting, but rather an interactive discussion with Board members, KFCA President, and KFCA Management. Please be respectful and remember that all commentary should be civil.

During the meeting, there will be a presentation from the Community Architect on the history of the development of King Farm and the development of the design standards for the community. Please see the agenda below for details.

King Farm Spring Fling Returns

It won’t be the same as usual, but King Farm is moving forward with our 10th Annual Spring Fling event!  This year will not feature the annual egg hunt on the lawn; however, we will “Hop into Spring” on Saturday, March 27, 2021, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Hoppers the Bunny will return for professional photos with all just outside the Saddle Ridge Community Center (300 Saddle Ridge Circle) and registered children will receive a goodie bag, and other fun treats! Due to space limitations, this event is open to King Farm residents only, sorry no non-resident outside guests, friends, or relatives permitted.

Due to current COVID-19 gathering restrictions, this event will be held outside (rain or shine, but the Bunny will be undercover!) and residents must pre-register for a time slot for this event.  Neighbors will be asked to socially distance themselves while standing in line and all must wear a mask.

Register Now for Spring Outdoor Fitness Classes

The King Farm Citizens Assembly is excited to partner with Complete Physique for a well-rounded fitness class outdoors on the Saddle Ridge lawn at 300 Saddle Ridge Circle.

All fitness levels will benefit from this class as individuals can set their own pace. Get in shape with a program that focuses on strength, functional and aerobic exercises. Some of the programs introduced will be High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), circuit training, cardiovascular station exercises, and some boxing/kickboxing. The class will involve a variety of exercise options – a real mix bag of offerings! So, come join the fun and work outside socially distanced from others. This six-week class will be held Tuesday evenings from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm starting April 13th, 2021.

• Cost is $90.00 for a total of (6) six sessions
• There must be a minimum of 6 people to host the class and a maximum of 12 people.
• Classes will meet on April 13th, April 20th, April 27th, May 4th, May 11th, and May 18th
• Required equipment: workout mat, light hand weights, water bottle, mask, and hand sanitizer

Volunteer to Help Clean up Our Stream

The Annual Potomac River Watershed cleanup is taking place on Saturday, April 10th, 2021. A group of volunteers working with the City of Rockville will be removing litter from Watts Branch streams that feed into Watkins Pond.

WHEN: April 10th, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

WHERE: Meet at the King Farm Park near the tennis courts and lower playground.

This activity is planned to be COVID-safe activity and bags and gloves will be provided. Due to the pandemic, the City requires pre-registration. To pre-register, email Kate Gould for a volunteer waiver/registration form at [email protected].

This activity is approved for MCPS Student Service Learning Hours.  Ask for forms when you pre-register.

King Farm Fall Leaf Collection Pick-Ups Scheduled for Week of April 9    

The city will vacuum leaves from neighborhood curbs from April 5-16 in five collection areas throughout Rockville. An interactive map at www.rockvillemd.gov/leafcollection allows residents to input their address and learn when their leaves will be collected. Unlike fall leaf collection, which has two collection rounds, city crews make only one pass to collect leaves in spring.

King Farm Neighbors Village News

The King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) is beginning spring with its March highlight event-the EFT Tapping Workshop on Thursday, March 25th from 4:00 pm-5:15 pm.- led by Bev Nerenberg. Tapping is an energy healing technique that incorporates tapping on energy meridian points while mentally focusing on a topic.  Tapping can be used to relieve such issues as low back pain or relationship problems. As Ms. Nerenberg states, “(Tapping) allows us to go from being STRESSED to RELAXED quickly, effectively, and efficiently.”  Please note that this event is open to all members of the King Farm community.

Looking forward to April, the KFNV will be hosting three virtual events:

The monthly movie club on April 1st from 2:00-3:15 pm, where the 2020 Italian drama, The Life Ahead will be discussed. This Netflix film, directed by Edoardo Ponti, Loren’s son, tells the story of Loren’s character, a retired prostitute/Holocaust survivor, who forges a bond with a young boy from Senegal. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 92% rating;

The monthly book club on April 8th from 12:30-2:15, where the book, News of the World by Paulette Jiles will be discussed.  News of the World is a 2016 American western novel, which is currently a film starring Tom Hanks; and finally,

The KFNV Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 22nd at 7:00 pm, where the new KFNV Board of Directors and Officers will be announced along with a discussion of KFNV operations over the last year and plans for future operations and events. The KFNV welcomes all members to this Annual Meeting and looks forward to “seeing” many members at this meeting.

New Information for Vaccination Appointments

Montgomery County has announced important information for those residents who   are 75+ and have pre-registered with the County for a Covid vaccination, but have not specifically heard from the County about scheduling an appointment. Game Give Away

The KFNV has the noncompetitive board game “Making Memories Together” for free distribution.  This game was designed for the purpose of honoring and communicating with an older family member, and it includes the exercise of surveying favorite family photos.  It is especially appropriate for those encountering the challenges of cognitive changes, and the game has earned first place in a competition focused on the use of art in health care.

Montgomery County COVID-19 Restrictions & Updates:

On Friday, March 12, 2021, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich released the following statement:

“We are aligning our outdoor dining with Maryland’s Department of Health guidance, while indoor dining capacity remains at 25 percent until March 26 when it will increase to 50 percent. The 10 p.m. time limit for alcohol service has also been eliminated. Childcare may return to group sizes and staff-child ratios in accordance with Maryland regulations. Outdoor gatherings have been increased to 50 people or less and indoor gatherings have been increased to 25 people or less. Retail establishments and businesses, such as fitness centers and hair or nail salons, as well as museums and art galleries can operate at 25 percent capacity.
