Montgomery County Council Public Hearing on Shady Grove Sector Minor Plan Amendment |
The Rockville Mayor and Council received a presentation on Montgomery County’s Shady Grove Sector Minor Plan Amendment (Plan Amendment), and the Mayor and Council held a discussion about it afterwards. If adopted by the Montgomery County Council, the Plan Amendment would update the Shady Grove Sector Plan that was adopted in 2006. Meeting materials and the video for February 8 can be found on the Rockville Channel by reviewing the Mayor and Council meeting for the date. The materials include the staff report, the draft Plan Amendment, and a letter that Rockville’s Planning Commission wrote in May 2020 to the Montgomery County Planning Board on an earlier draft. The County Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the Plan Amendment on February 23, 2021 at 1:30 pm. The Mayor and Council will be finalizing their testimony on the Plan Amendment at their meeting on February 22, 2021. Staff has been asked to develop a draft letter of testimony for their review, based on the recommendations of the staff report and additional thoughts that the Mayor and Council provided on February 8. There are many areas that may interest your neighborhood. Of particular interest to the King Farm community may be the recommendation in the Plan Amendment that relates to schools. The Plan Amendment recommends relocating the existing Montgomery County Public School Bus Depot, which is currently in the Plan area, to a different location; and utilizing that site for an elementary school. If the County is unable to find a location to move the bus depot, the Plan Amendment recommends utilizing the reserved King Farm elementary school site, which is a portion of King Farm Park, to support the new development, The Mayor and Council directed City staff to inform the King Farm community of the recommendation, and let you know that you can testify at the County Council Public Hearing if you choose to do so. If you are interested in testifying at the public hearing, please call the Montgomery County Council staff at (240) 777-7803. More information on the 2006 Shady Grove Sector Plan and the amendment process is available at the following website: Shady Grove Minor Master Plan Amendment – Montgomery Planning. If you have thoughts about the draft Amendment that you would like the Mayor and Council to include in its testimony to the County Council, you have two options. First, you can give me your input by Friday, February 19. I will then be able to bring your input forward as the Mayor and Council considers the letter. You may also come and speak at Community Forum at the February 22, 2021 Mayor and Council meeting and provide your thoughts. To sign up for Community Forum, please sign up in advance by calling the City Clerk’s office at 240-314-8280 by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting. Speakers are asked to keep their remarks to three minutes. More information on providing testimony to the Montgomery County Council is available at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/COUNCIL/PHSignUp.html If you wish to provide written comments to the County Council on the Plan Amendment, please submit those written comments no later than February 26, 2021, to [email protected] or by U.S. mail to Council President, Montgomery County Council, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850. If you have questions regarding the Plan Amendment or the hearing, please call Pamela Dunn at (240) 777-7940. |
